Parliament Passes 35 Billion Pound Infrastructure Plan with Unanimous Support
Support Beams of the High Speed Railway
Turtle Bay, Keymon
April 11th, 2030
The Parliament has recently passed a 35 billion infrastructural plan, with unanimous support from both coalitions. The infrastructure plan, which will be paid for using a loan from Iokua Banking and several other banks, includes numerous improvements to pre-existing infrastructure alongside the construction of new infrastructure. The pre-existing improvements will include things such as repaving of roads, resigning, and the continued improvements of existing airports, train-stations, and bus stops.
The expansion part of the infrastructure plan will cost an estimated 28 billion pounds, with the main costs going to the construction of a new high speed railway. This new high speed railway will span from Leighstown to Niusuapali’l, with an estimated track length of 25,000 km for the direct high speed railway. The construction of this high speed railway will cost 17 billion pounds, making it one of the most expensive infrastructure projects in Keymon history. The trains will operate at a max speed of 350 km per hour, making any cross-Keymon journey significantly shorter and less expensive. This high speed railway network will connect the cities of Turtle Bay and Leighstown and make travel between the two take only half an hour. Travel between Leighstown and Niusuapali’l will take 8 hours, beating the average time of 18 hours to travel between the two cities. The high speed network, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, will encourage travel across Keymon and therefore benefit all the provinces economically.
The other projects pursued by the loan will also bring economic benefits to Keymon. The Ministry of Infrastructure announced that they would be constructing four new airports across Keymon, to encourage travel from foreign nations. They also announced the construction of an additional 10,000 kilometers of internet cables across Keymon, bringing internet capabilities to even the most rural of area and even in the middle of jungles. The infrastructure will use the remaining funds to expand the highway and road system to incorporate more rural areas into the fold.
Politically, this move has been praised from both sides as a necessary change as Keymon becomes an even larger tourist destination. The leadership of all four parties have praised the projects as good for the economy and people of Keymon. However, some within the PKU have criticized the usage of a loan instead of revenue already collected by the government via taxes. They claim that this violates the anti-budget deficit financial policies of the PKU. However, the PKU leadership have argued that this debt will be paid off and Keymon will once again become one of the only nations in Keymon to have no budget deficit.
