Please note that this a draft and really done by me, it is far from complete and naturally will be changes made as we discuss the pre-game empires and the pre-game history. This is being done essentially so we have some form of backstory.
Pre-Game Empires
Early Empires
1. Vescanian Empire – One of the earliest Empires and one of the longest lasting was the Vescanian Empire that included the modern countries of Xsampa, Medina, Kalkalistan and Vanakalam. Founded by Arkaan (?) Vescania, which the continent of Vescania gained its name from. The Vescanian Empire was largely dominated by the Vescanian family and was the pre-eminent power in the Dovani-Vescanian region for several centuries.
The dominance of the Vescanian Empire lasted until the rise of Ahmadism in southern Dovani via trading hubs with Kafuristan, Solentia which were components of the Ahmadi Caliphate. Xsampa and Medina were the first to convert en masse and suddenly the Vescanian Empire was embroiled in religious conflict by the rise of the colonial era in the 15th century, the Vescanian Empire was largely relegated to Vescanian proper and the rise of the Medina Sultanate, which ruled Xsampa and Medina, was in full swing.
Following its loss and the growing unpopularity of the Vescanian dynasty, the “Vescanian Empire” was ruled by a series of unsuccessful dynasties until the arrival of the Holy Luthori Empire in the early 19th century in which they established a colonial empire dominating the continent of Vescania and providing assistance to the failing Median Sultanate. Luthorian interest in Vescania and the establishment of the “Luthorian Raj” in Vescania saw the introduction of Luthorian to the Vescanian people, the push towards modernization and a limited form of democracy and more importantly the conversion of a significant number of the population to Hosianism.
The Luthorian Raj (?) was ended in the mid 20th century and had a lasting impression on the Vescanian nations of Kalkalistan and Vanakalam.
2. Ahmadi Caliphate – The rise of Ahmadism in Kafuristan, known in Majatran as al-Qalb, the heart, quickly swept the tribes of Kafuristan, Solentia, Badara (where Kafuristan had established several outposts), parts of Kalopia, Cildania and Istalia underneath the leadership of the Prophet Ahmad. Following the death of Ahmad, a successor was appointed, a Caliph and from there the Ahmadi Caliphate became a loose federation of several major Sheikhs, Emirs, Sultans all underneath the patronage of the Caliph. Ahmadism was spread through a variety of cultural diffusion, trading and conquest, it largely spread throughout Majatra and became an important piece of Majatran history.
As Artanian, Seleyan and Kerisian nations began to comb the world for colonial possessions, Ahmadism became a rallying cry for the Majatran world to defend against colonial invaders. While Majatra is not a “colonial” continent many of the proper Majatran states were behind or had not adapted as technologically fast as others such as the fledging Augustan Empire or the Selucian city states. The Ahmadi Caliphate would collapse effectively in the 16th century and despite this “collapse” the majority Ahmadi states of Badara, Kafuristan and Solentia would continue a sort of quasi-feudal confederation through a common religion. In more modern times the differences between the two sects, the Isriaist (Israism - Sunni) and Abadist (Abadism – Shia) became more apparent and despite relative unity, has caused tension and in some cases outright conflict.
3. Augustan Empire – The Augustan Empire dominated the western half of Majatra, based out of modern Zardugal, its influence stretched across Zardugal, Cobura, Jakania, Deltaria and Jelbania. The Augustan Empire was founded in the early 4th century and expanded into the 15th century. The Augustan Empire was a hybrid of the Eastern Roman Empire (pre-Byzantine) and the Byzantine Empire and largely dominated by the Augustans, who were successors of the Kingdom of Leucopolis and the Qedarite Empire which spanned Majatra. Underneath a series of conflicts and civil wars, the Augustan Empire crumbled and as Ahmadism expanded across the continent, it became apparent that the Augustan Empire, despite its alleged technological dominance was facing a dangerous test of its strength and eventually collapsed in the 15th century.
4. Seluco-Dunic Empire – Selucian explorers landed on the coast of Artania and founded a series of settlements and the Dunic people (Goths, Ostrogoths, Germanic tribes) formed an alliance and founded the Seluco-Dunic Empire. The Seluco-Dunic Empire largely dominated northern Artania (Narikaton and Darnussia, Dundorf, Kirlawa, Rutania, Aloria, Dorvik) and united a wide variety of tribes to form a more Germanic/Barian Western Roman Empire that adopted the hybrid styles of the barbarians and Roman legionaries. The Seluco-Dunic Empire would eventually fracture and transform into a series of independent kingdoms, notably the Kingdom of Dundorf which become an integral part of northern Artanian history.
5. Selucian City States – While not a titular empire or actually a concise state, the Selucian City States dominated trade and their legionaries dominated fighting across the globe and spread the Selucian language, culture and society to many nations. Selucian is widely regarded as the basis for many languages, Selucian scholarship is regarded as one of the best series of works for many continents, notably Majatra, Artania and Seleya. Selucian city states and their client states dominated the landscape across the three continents and largely collapsed underneath domestic pressure versus foreign pressure. Selucian democracy is widely regarded as the effective model for governance despite its eventual collapse and loss of its massive empire.
6. Indralan/Sekowo/Dankuk “Empires” – I’m going to be REAL honest. I’ve always respected Chinese, Japanese, Korean history but I could never, for the life of me, get it or understand it nor do I wish to disrespect those players who have in PT and likely in TN, will do it justice. I leave this entirely for them. I envision that they will largely dominate Dovani.
Middle and Late Empires
1. Holy Luthori Empire – The unification of Luthori underneath a stable dynasty prompted the creation of the Holy Luthori Empire after it united the crowns of Luthori proper, Hobrazia and Malivia. From there the HLE rose from a regional power on the southern tier of Artania and collected a various colonial empire. Colonial holdings (not necessarily territorial dominance) included Beitenyu, large swathes of northern Seleya and other parts of the continent, Vescania, Keymon, holdings in various parts of Dovani and large trading with its northern neighbor the Dundorfian Reich (and the Kingdom of Dundorf prior to that). The Holy Luthori Empire continues to be a dominating presence in the modern world though many of its former colonial holdings and possessions have declared independence willingly, voluntarily or fought for it.
2. Dundorfian Reich – The Dundorfian Reich has its origins in the Seluco-Dunic Empire which eventually became an elective monarchy dominated by the Dunic tribes as it pushed its Selucian culture out and away. The Seluco-Dunic Empire became a loose confederation of various Kings, Grand Dukes, etc. Underneath a series of rulers, the Kingdom of Dundorf (its central Kingdom and most powerful elector) came to control Ikradon, known as the “Southern Settlement”, it came to dominate Rutania, Aloria, Kirlawa and Dorvik. The largest concentration of Dunic outside of Dundorf was located in Dorvik where the Dunic people were joined by the Lormans. The Seluco-Dunic Empire gradually became known as the Dundorfian Reich, sometimes the Dundorfian Confederation and in some circles the Holy Dundorfian Realm, became a highly competitive state with its nobles playing a large role in its development. Its first Imperial title was granted to the King as became known as the Kaiser (Emperor) from the Augustan Caesar.
While not as focused on colonial holdings as its southern neighbor and at times competitor, the Holy Luthori Empire, the Dundorfians established colonies throughout the world and formed their largest holding on Dovani in the modern nation of Hulstria in the early 19th century. The Dundorfian Reich experiences a large number of cultural conflicts, mostly centered around the slim majority Dundorfian rule, a series of radical religious conflicts, the rise of Martin Luthor, the rise of Tasselism, cultural and religion clashing and a period of centralization, decentralization and ultimately culminated in the formation of the Dundorfian Reich (commonly known as the Dundorfian Empire) in 1831 underneath Kaiser Wilhelm and the establishment of one of the largest continuous empires in history. The Dundorfian Reich was unique in that it was a collection of smaller kingdoms (some larger than Dundorf itself), grand duchies, duchies, counties, marches, etc. The Dundorfian Reich experienced a number of nationalist movements in the early 20th century which eventually assisted in the collapse of the Dundorfian Reich and its descent into the period known as the “Collapse of the Reich” and the Reich Civil War which spawned 5 new, official independent states in the mid 20th century.
3. Trigunian Tsardom - WiP, Spanning Macon + Keris, powerful naval empire rivaling the HLE.
4. Mordusian Kingdom - ? Spanish kingdom dominating southern Seleya
5. Rilandor Republic - Not an empire but a frenchy republic or maybe kingdom that was at odds in southern seleya with the Mordusian Kingdom.
